When should I arrive? As early as you like. The venue will be set up Friday August 8th and camping on the ballfield will begin Friday night. Where can I stay? There will be camping on the ballfield on a first-come, first-served basis. The cost for this camping is $8 per night (payable to Fontana Village Resort). The campsites adjacent to the race course are reserved for solo riders. Cabins and rooms at the Inn are also available while they last by contacting Fontana Village Resort at 1-800-849-2258. Where is the camping field in relation to the venue? The ballfield at the village is the venue. There will be camping available right there on the ballfield for $8 per night. We are reserving the campsites closest to the course for solo riders so they can duck off and back on the course quickly. What about food? Fontana Village Resort offers the Wildwood Grill (excellent pizza!) which is open for lunch and dinner and the Bistro at the lodge which is open for all three meals. There will be a FREE pasta dinner beginning at 6:00 PM for all registered racers and volunteers. All others interested in enjoying the dinner can purchase a meal ticket for $7. What about bathrooms or showers? There will be porta-potties close (not TOO close) to the ballfield. The showers at the campground and in the recreation hall will also be available. Of course, all cabins and rooms at the inn have their own private facilities. Will there be a place to charge my lights? Yes. There will be a neutral charging next to the Event Info booth. Will there be any tech support? Yes. Liberty Bikes will be on site to make any necessary repairs that you may need. What will the course be like? Think typical Western North Carolina single track. The course starts on the ballfield, climbs the upper section of Turkey Shoot, goes across Whiting, through the Lewellyn Cove loop, out to Gold Branch, then returns to the ballfield. If you have raced The Icycle, then you have raced at least part of this course. Can I pre-ride the course? Yes. You can pick up a map from the bike shop or the Adventure Center and follow the route described above. The course will be marked and ready for official pre-riding on Friday August 8th. I am going to race in the 6-hour solo class. Do I have to wait until after the 12-hour classes are complete to receive my award? Yes. All awards will be presented during the awards ceremony which will begin immediately following the compilation of all race results (should be approximately 11:00 to 11:30 PM). There will be plenty to keep you busy, however, while you wait. There will be two live bands, the pasta dinner, the French Broad Brewing beer tent, and the opportunity to win some schwag in one of our afternoon games. |
